Road Safety Schemes

There is an ongoing annual programme of schemes to address accidents at junctions and along routes.  They range from minor schemes to major projects costing over a hundred thousand pounds.

Child Safety Zones (CSZ) are area-wide road safety schemes to address child accidents. The main features would be self enforcing 20mph speed limits and measures to aid pedestrian movement within the area.
The aim is to commence work on one or two zones each year.

Danger Reduction Schemes are to reduce the fear and intimidation suffered by vulnerable road users even though there may not be a record of accidents.

School Entrance Schemes are to address safety worries outside schools which include measures to prevent parking where children cross and to address inappropriate driver speeds.

Small Schemes generally cost less than £1,000 and are often the result of requests from the public.  Some are forwarded by the Area Co-ordinators following Area Panel meetings.
