Walking Bus
A walking bus is a group of children walking to school under the supervision of at least two trained adults, one leading the group (driver) and one at the rear (conductor).
Walking buses have many benefits. They promote fitness and help children to develop road safety skills. They reduce congestion and school gate parking, and provide an enjoyable, sociable and fun journey to school.
If you would like to set up a walking bus you will need:
- A co-ordinator to ensure that the scheme runs smoothly. This can be a parent or member of staff at the school.
- Adult volunteers interested in running the bus. These are usually parents of children using the walking bus scheme.
