South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan

120 Bus and bicycleCorporation Street

The South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (LTP) is the main transport strategy for the county and therefore Sheffield.  It's objectives are to support economic growth by developing and maintaining an integrated transport system and enhancing the overall quality of life for the people of South Yorkshire.

By 2011 there will have been three LTPs produced - the first for 2001 to 2006, the current LTP2 (2006 - 2011) and the new LTP3 which is being developed now.

The LTP is produced jointly between the four Districts (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield) and the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.  See the Local Transport Plan website for the latest information.

About LTP2

The Council is tasked with delivering the Sheffield aspects of this South Yorkshire wide transport strategy.  Almost all of the transport improvements in Sheffield are funded through the LTP, although significant transport projects are also funded through European grants and private sector investment.

The LTP2 is based on four core priorities, which are:

  • Accessibility
  • Congestion
  • Air Quality
  • Road Safety

To view the full LTP see the Local Transport Plan website.
