Design Guidance for Residential and Industrial Developments

This page describes various documents (downloadable below or on other web pages) to achieve high quality residential and industrial developments in Sheffield.

 

Sheffield, with the other three South Yorkshire Highway Authorities (Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham) and with the SYPTE, has produced highway and layout guidance for the design of residential developments entitled ‘Better Places to Live in South Yorkshire’.  This guidance should be read in conjunction with the Government’s new Manual for Streets.

 

A similar guide for industrial estates entitled ‘Better Places to Work in South Yorkshire’, has been produced by Objective 1, again with the co-operation of the four South Yorkshire authorities.

 

There is also a ‘Technical Appendix’ to the above documents which gives specific detailed design information for both residential and industrial estate roads, and a  ‘Highways Specification’ that gives detailed guidance on materials and construction specifications.  In addition, ‘A Guide to the Materials for Adoption’ has recently been produced, which is a summary of the latest guidance on adoptable highway materials in Sheffield.  All of these documents will be of great assistance for developers who are preparing proposals for planning applications and Section 38 submissions to the City Council.
