Green Parking Scheme

An electric Smart car
A permit to allow free parking in city centre Council parking spaces is available as part of the Green Parking Scheme as follows:

  • The scheme is for anyone with an eligible vehicle, irrespective of home address.

  • Vehicles that qualify are those not powered solely by petrol or diesel. This includes electric, gas, and dual-fuelled vehicles (gas/petrol and petrol-electrics).  It does not include biodiesel-enabled vehicles.

  • The free parking is at any City Council off-street car park or on-street pay and display bays, within the City Centre Controlled Parking Zone.  See the parking pages.  Time limits for parking spaces still apply.

  • Members will be issued with a permit showing the vehicle registration number and a cardboard clock. Permits will not be issued for any period less than 12 months.

  • There is a joining fee of £10 and an annual fee of £10 to cover the cost of the permit, the clock and administration. A £10 fee applies if a permit or clock is lost or for a change of vehicle.

  • No refunds are available on permits, which may be relinquished, for any reason, during their period of validity.

  • When parking, both the permit and the clock (set to the arrival time) will need to be clearly displayed in the vehicle windscreen.  Failure to comply with the conditions of the scheme may result in the issue of a Penalty Charge Notice.

A copy of your vehicle registration document or conversion certificate must be provided to qualify, together with a cheque for the required payment, made payable to Sheffield City Council, and sent to:
