Streetscene Programmed Maintenance

Each year Street Force carries out a combination of routine and programmed work to maintain the streets where you live.

Routine Work

  • The routine work that we carry out is explained on the other Street Force pages; see listing to your left.

Programmed Work

  • A list of the programmed work, split by type of work and sorted by Community Assembly, that we plan to carry out/have carried out this financial year and the work we carried out in the previous financial year (April to March) are available as documents to download along with a document that explains the various types of work we undertake.

Note on 2009/10 Programme Maintenance Work

This year we plan to surface 77 sites across the city using micro asphalt.

Micro asphalting is a cost effective cold laid bitumen (tar) based surfacing material, it is placed on top of the existing road surface.  The material is generally laid 12 to 15 mm thick, but depressions in the road up to 25 mm deep can be evened out to improve the ride quality.

Due to the number of sites throughout the city requiring micro asphalting, priority has been given to this type of resurfacing for 2009/10.

Prioritising micro asphalting means that we won't carry out any surface dressing this year.

Surface dressing involves spraying a binder (tar) on to the road and rolling in stone chips.

We will be pre-patching roads ready for the 2010/11 surface dressing programme during 2009/10.
