Shop Sites
Shop Site Groups
Sheffield’s shopping sites are divided into 4 groups, Principal, Gateway & District, Neighbourhood and Local. We aim to keep every site predominantly litter free with no overflowing litter bins.
Principal Shop Sites
Features:
- An area that has a high volume of pedestrians and vehicular traffic
- A concentration of all the major outlets for residents relating to food, finance and leisure
- A significant choice of businesses on the site which would include a Post Office, bank, supermarket, takeaway outlets, various other types of retail and leisure outlets
- Residents of Sheffield would travel to this location from a five-mile radius
Cleaning Regime
Principal sites have a lengthsperson to carry out cleaning duties Monday to Saturday all year round.
Mechanical sweepers as back-up where necessary.
Gateway & District Shop Sites
Features:
Includes any neighbourhood sites that are both on a Gateway and near a Secondary School/College with lunchtime/after school shopping.
An area that has a medium volume of pedestrians and vehicular traffic
A medium number of retail and leisure outlets available
Area tends to cater for people in a catchment area smaller than a Principal Shop Site
Cleaning Regime
In the Investment Trial Areas the sites are cleaned daily, the remaining sites in the city are cleaned 3 times per week.
Neighbourhood Shop Sites
Features:
Any shop site near a Secondary School that has lunchtime/after school shopping in an area where: -
- Housing is predominantly private
- Housing is predominantly Council
Cleaning regime
In the Investment Trial Area the sites are cleaned 3 times per week, the remaining sites in the city receive 1 visit per week by a mobile team. A mobile team could be a mechanical sweeper or a vehicle with 2 operatives to hand sweep, empty bins and litter pick the site.
