Fly Tipping

What is Fly Tipping?

Fly tipping is dumping without authorisation of rubbish on private or Council owned land or rubbish dumped on land where the owners do not have a Waste Management Licence.  It is usually carried out by people who want to avoid paying the fees necessary when disposing of commercial waste, people who can’t be bothered to take household and garden rubbish to a Household Waste Recycling Centre, or will not pay Veolia for removing it.

Fly tipping is a major cause of public dissatisfaction if it is not removed.  It seriously detracts from the look of an area and it can cause injury to people and wildlife.

Private Land

Please report any accumulations on private land, or if you do not know who owns the land, to Environmental Services on telephone number (0114) 203 7410 or (0114) 203 7411.  If the land is privately owned Environmental Services will contact the owner and take legal steps to get the rubbish removed, this can take longer to arrange than removal from Council owned land.

The Highway

Street Force is only responsible for clearing fly tipping if it is on the highway.
If there are accumulations of rubbish on the highway, please report it to the Contact Centre on telephone number (0114) 273 4567 or email: streetforce@sheffield.gov.uk  Please give us the street name and any nearby property number or landmark.  This will help ensure that the rubbish is quickly removed.
