South Yorkshire Laboratory
The Laboratory of the four Metropolitan Councils of South Yorkshire.
Since being established in 1986, the South Yorkshire Laboratory has become a regional centre of excellence, offering construction materials and environmental sampling and testing facilities and asbestos services to a wide range of clients both in the Public and Private Sector.
The Central Testing Laboratory is based on Station Road at Ecclesfield, which is on the North Side of Sheffield. This comprises of the following sub units:
- Concrete Laboratory
- Material Sampling and Aggregate Laboratory
- Asphalt Laboratory
- Materials Investigation and Geotechnical Laboratory
- Chemistry Laboratory
- Asbestos Sampling and Testing Laboratory
- Quality Assurance Laboratory
- Environmental Laboratory

Over the last decade, the Laboratory has operated in excess of 20 site laboratories on large construction projects and in 2001, obtained its first overseas contract in the project management of the asbestos removal for the demolition of the Dhekelia "A" Power Station in Cyprus.
