Saving Resources
Electricity
In April 2008 we fitted solar panels on to the roof to generate electricity.
During daylight hours the solar panels provide enough power for all the lights in the building and any surplus is fed back into the National Grid. At night the lights are powered by the mains supply. This arrangement reduces the carbon footprint of the building and the electricity bill.
Water
This public toilet is also helping to conserve precious water resources. No equipment in the toilet uses mains water. The toilets and the hand washing units use water that is supplied by gravity from a tank on the moor, filled from a spring and stream.
The water quality is suitable for hand washing and flushing of the toilets but not for drinking. There are no taps accessible to users and 'Not Drinking Water' signs are displayed on the hand washing machines.
