Our Aim:

 
To undertake any tree work necessary to ensure people and vehicles can move freely and safely on the public highway.
 
To help improve the environment and retain Sheffield's green heritage.
 
To ensure all tree work is undertaken in accordance with the relevant legislation and best practice.
 

Facts & Figures

 
We are responsible for the management and maintenance of 35,000 trees located on the adopted highway.
 
We provide a 24 hour 365 days per year call out service in response to tree related emergencies affecting the highway as a result of accident or gale damage.
 
Since 2007 we have planted 550 replacement trees on the adopted highway.
 

What we do

 
We carry out routine safety inspections of highway trees.
 
We manage and maintain the trees to help ensure they remain in a healthy and safe condition thus minimising the risk of accidents, damage or disruption to the highway.
 
We also carry out arboricultural work for other Council service areas.
 

What kind of work do we carry out

 
To ensure the trees are safe and do not cause a hazard to the public, maintenance work has to be prioritised on a Health and Safety basis.
 
We undertake work in the following situations:
  • Uprooting/fallen trees
  • Structurally unsound trees
  • Broken, hanging or fallen branches
  • Trees proven to be implicated in subsidence/insurance claims
  • Dead, dying or diseased trees
  • Trees obscuring traffic signs or signals
  • Low branches obscuring the highway or footpath
  • Tree obscuring sight lines on the highway
  • Branches touching property
 

What kind of work we cannot carry out

 
We are unable to carry out work in the following circumstances:
  • Branches overhanging property
  • Trees that are considered to be too large
  • Falling leaves or fruit
  • Falling blossom or sap
  • Trees blocking light or causing shade
  • Trees obstructing telephone wires
  • Trees obstructing TV/satellite reception
 

Emergencies

 
We provide a 24 hour 365 days per year call out service in response to tree related emergencies affecting the highway as a result of accident or gale damage.
 
We respond to the majority of emergency situations within 2 hours.
 

Trees we do not maintain

 
We are not responsible for the management and maintenance of trees at the following locations:
