The Sheffield Graffiti Charter

Graffiti Charter Certificate

The Charter

One of the Council's main objectives is to improve the general appearance of the Streetscene.

The Sheffield Graffiti Charter has been conceived with the clear intention of keeping street furniture and buildings free from graffiti, as far as is reasonably possible.

The Charter is a partnership with South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield City Council and signatories to make the city a safe and welcome environment for people to work, shop and visit.

We would welcome enquiries from representatives of businesses or organisations who would be interested in making a commitment to the Charter.

Aims

The Sheffield Graffiti Charter has been conceived with the clear intention of improving the Streetscene in the City of Sheffield.  It is important that Sheffield should set a positive impression to existing residents and businesses and especially potential residents, businesses and tourists who may wish to visit, live and/or invest in the city.

The overall aim of the Charter is to ensure places where people choose to live, work, shop and play have a good quality environment in line with the Council's commitment to achieve a cleaner, greener, safer city.

The Charter aims to promote and publicise people or organisations that are playing their part in the improvement of the Streetscene and to raise public awareness of graffiti related issues.

Terms of the Charter

The signatories to the charter document have agreed to abide by the Terms of the Sheffield Graffiti Charter, which are:

To do all that is reasonably possible to keep their respective properties, in the City of Sheffield, free from graffiti to improve the appearance of the Street Scene, for the benefit of the people of Sheffield and help South Yorkshire Police bring prosecutions against the culprits.

Specifically, the signatories to the Sheffield Graffiti Charter will:

  • Arrange to remove obscenities and racist graffiti from their respective properties within 24 hours of it being brought to their attention.
  • Arrange to remove other graffiti from their respective properties within 10 days of it being brought to their attention.

Getting Involved

The Sheffield Graffiti Charter operates city-wide and covers the full range of buildings from the smallest shop to the largest business outlet.  It is open to any organisation with premises inside the Sheffield boundary.

Participation in this initiative is entirely voluntary.  There is no cost other than those associated with keeping your building graffiti free in line with the Terms of the Charter.
