Gleadless Valley Masterplan

The regeneration work on Gleadless Valley will set out to provide change for the local community over the next 10 years and beyond. The project will look to improve housing, shared and greenspaces, and provide better services, facilities, employment and skills. Residents, tenants businesses and partners will be at the centre of the project, making sure that the regeneration will provide the changes the community want.

The Masterplan was officially signed off in September 2022, with the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team becoming fully operational in May 2023. The regeneration work focuses on Housing, Shared and Green Spaces, Services and Facilities and Employment and Skills.

Key Project Updates

Paddock Hill & Castelayn

The Council received external funding to demolish Paddock Hill Care Home (Gleadless Road) and Castelayn Residential Home (Leighton Drive). These unused former care homes, called 'brownfield sites', will be replaced with affordable housing.

The funding for demolition comes from the Brownfield Land Release Fund 2 by One Public Estate (OPE). This was not originally included in the Gleadless Valley Masterplan but provides an opportunity for more affordable homes to be built on the estate.

Spotswood

The consultation period for the Spotswood Greenspace Project has now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted formal or informal feedback regarding the initial design proposals. The feedback will now be gathered and work with the Capital Delivery Service to make appropriate amendments. Once this is completed, we will share the update.

Hemsworth & Herdings

We are working with the Council's Parks and Leisure Team to improve football pitches at Hemsworth and Herdings. The application stage has now closed and these will be reviewed in due course.
