Sheffield Development Framework

Under the new arrangements for the planning system, a local development framework is being created which will be a portfolio of local development documents.  These documents collectively deliver the spatial planning strategy for the local planning authority’s area.

In Sheffield, the Sheffield Development Framework (SDF) will be the City’s portfolio of local development documents, collectively covering the whole of the Sheffield District except for the area in the Peak Park.  Once adopted, the SDF will replace the Unitary Development Plan (UDP).

The documents in the SDF will be:

  • The Local Development Scheme (LDS) has been revised (October 2006).  It sets out what documents will be prepared up to 2010
  • Core Strategy, containing strategic planning policies
  • City Policies document, containing detailed regulatory and design policies
  • City Sites document, identifying specific site allocations and other site-specific proposals
  • Proposals Map, illustrating the policies and sites
  • Statement of Community Involvement, setting out how communities and stakeholders will be involved in the preparation of the SDF and how they are consulted on planning applications
  • SDF Annual Monitoring Report
  • Supplementary Planning Documents for a range of topics - see the LDS above
  • Area Action Plans for parts of the city to be identified in a future version of the Local Development Scheme.
