Playing Pitch Strategy

The Sheffield Playing Pitch Strategy is an up-to-date assessment of playing pitch provision in the City.  It forms part of the Council’s response to the requirements of Planning Policy Guidance Note 17 (PPG 17).  It has been undertaken in accordance with the methodology detailed in “Towards a Level Playing Field” (Sport England, 2003), and presents the findings of assessments of provision for seven pitch-based sports where the ‘team’ forms the key demand unit.

The Strategy will be used to identify current levels of provision in the area, and compares this with current, and likely future levels of demand.  Areas in need of new facilities and areas with a surplus of facilities, have been identified, and this will aid in the development of future planning policy and allocation of playing pitches, whilst also helping to support bids for external funding.
