Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
Sheffield’s current Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) was completed in July 2008, and can be downloaded from the links below. The SFRA collates all known sources of flooding in the city, and delineates areas that have ‘low’, ‘medium’, or ‘high’ probability of flooding. These are shown on a series of maps covering the city. It also recommends land uses for each area and appropriate mitigation measures as necessary. The SFRA shows a number of areas of the city in medium and high probability flood zones, such as parts of the City Centre and the Lower Don Valley, as well as areas in Ecclesfield and Chapeltown.
The Level 1 SFRA is the main document covering the whole city, and delineates areas that have ‘low’, ‘medium’, or ‘high’ probability of flooding. The Level 1 document is used to inform the Sequential Test, which is a requirement of Planning Policy Statement 25: Development and Flood Risk.
The report and its figures and appendices can be downloaded via the links below. Appendix A contains the SFRA Flood Maps showing the areas of ‘low’, ‘medium’, and ‘high’ probability of flooding. Appendix B contains maps showing the topography of the city. Appendix C contains maps showing overland flow routes based upon a strategic interrogation of the district topography. The routes are indicative, and localised flow routes are likely to occur in other locations not shown on these maps. Appendix D contains information about the June 2007 flood event in Sheffield.
The Level 2 SFRA for the Nursery Street/Wicker area builds on the Level 1 SFRA and provides more detail for this area, particularly on flood hazard and flood depth. The report and its figures can be downloaded via the link below.
