Southey Owlerton Masterplans
Housing Market Renewal
The Southey Owlerton Panel Area falls within the Transform South Yorkshire Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder. South Yorkshire is the largest of the 9 Housing Market Renewal Pathfinders established in 2002. The fundamental objective of this initiative is to target resources over a period of 10 years, for interventions that will help restructure the local and sub-regional housing markets, and create successful and sustainable communities through comprehensive regeneration.
The strategic goal of the Transform South Yorkshire Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder is:
"To build and support sustainable communities and successful neighbourhoods where the quality and choice of housing underpins a buoyant economy and an improved way of life". (Transform South Yorkshire 2003)
Transform South Yorkshire has 3 strategic objectives:
- to achieve a radical improvement in the character and diversity of neighbourhoods
- to improve housing quality
- to increase the range of housing types and tenures.
Masterplanning
During 2004, consultation events were held about the masterplans and the Centres Strategy for Foxhill, Parson Cross, New Parson Cross and Shirecliffe. The masterplans and the Centres Strategy have now been approved by the Council and will guide development on the redevelopment sites.
The Centres Strategy aims to introduce a new district shopping centre to Southey Owlerton and to strengthen three other centres to create a total of four key centres across the area. The identified centres are Chaucer Buchanon, Margetson, Herries Road and Southey Magnet. Each of these centres will have a distinct role and character.
Below are the Masterplans and the Centres Strategy documents.
