Planning Appeals
If an applicant feels aggrieved by the council’s decision on an application, they can lodge an appeal with The Planning Inspectorate.
From January 2008, Sheffield City Council is taking part in The Planning Inspectorate's Fast Track Householder Appeal pilot scheme
Applicants can appeal against a refusal of planning permission or against conditions applied to an application. Please note that only applicants may lodge an appeal, there is no right of appeal for third parties (e.g. Objectors to an application).
Everyone who comments in writing on an application will be informed if it becomes subject to an appeal. They will also be given the chance to make further submissions during the course of the appeal.
An applicant must submit an appeal to the planning inspectorate within six months of receiving the decision from the council. Appeals are conducted by an impartial inspector, who is appointed by the government. During the course of an appeal, you can choose how you would like your appeal to be heard (By written representations, informal hearing or by public inquiry).
Further details on Planning Appeals, including detailed information on how to submit an appeal and the timescales involved are available from The Planning Inspectorate.
