  • Step Change in Major Application performance

  • 10% increase in Community Satisfaction

  • Minor Application performance targeted

In 2006/07, we achieved all three BVPI 109 targets for the first time. This was mainly down to a significant improvement in the time taken to determine Major applications though all we have managed improve performance across all fronts. Our achievements were:

a)      BVPI 109a, Major Applications – 68% in target
b)      BVPI 109b, Minor Applications – 70% in target
c)       BVPI 109c, Other Applications – 88% in target

Every year the Planning Department conducts a survey of all neighbours & community groups who have been consulted about a planning application that has been submitted in their area. The main highlights include:

  • the overall satisfaction level has increased in the last year, from 54% to 63.7% neighbours consulted being pleased with the service.

  • on average, 86% of people who contacted the department were content with the service they received.

  • around 72% of Planning Applications Online users were happy with the service suggesting that it is easy to use and that it helps create a more transparent planning service.

  • several comments suggested the Planning webpages are difficult to navigate. We have taken these on board and will be revamping the pages over the coming months.

We are targeting a step change in our minor performance for 2007-08. We hope to achieve this by:

  • recruiting new planning officers to the Fast Track team to help deal with more minor applications;
  • careful management of applications;
  • setting a challenging yet realistic BVPI 109b target of 75% of applications determined within the 8 week deadline;
  • and by taking a more robust approach to poor quality applications.
