Movement and inclusion
Reducing the reliance on vehicles and associated transport-related pollution and carbon emissions, through encouraging efficient, effective movement by a wide range of transport modes, is a crucial aim in creating a sustainable Sheffield. Planning can assist in achieving this through promoting walking and cycling, integrating inclusive design principles and facilitating the development of travel plans and the creation of car clubs.
Use the links on the left for guidance and information on how Movement and Inclusion issues affect sustainable development. These points should be addressed within your Sustainability Statement.
Key requirements are highlighted below:
Sheffield Car Club - Certain developments will be required to provide car club parking spaces, where necessary to help meet the needs of occupiers, and guidance sets out where other major developments will also be encouraged to make provision in accordance with emerging Sheffield Development Framework policies.
Travel Plans - Travel Plans are required to have more effective monitoring regimes and have progress towards Travel Plan targets independently validated.
Connect Sheffield - Sheffield is encouraging pedestrian and cycle movement around the city centre with more atractive and effective signage. Affected developments will be required to update the signs.
Accessibility - Sheffield is creating an inclusive environment and this will continue to be an important planning requirement.
Cycling - Sheffield has standards for cycle facilities.
