Design and Access Statements
The government introduced Design and Access Statements to improve the quality of developments and to encourage a more informed planning debate. Statements are required for all planning applications and applications for listed building consent, except for application of the following types:
- Material change of use, unless it involves operational development or a use with public access (the latter being a Sheffield 'Local Planning Application Requirement')
- Engineering or mining operations
- Development of an existing dwelling (extensions and alterations), unless it is in a Conservation Area.
For further information on how and when to write these statements please download the attachment at the foot of this page. The Guide has been produced by the Planning Service in order to try to ensure that the content and quality of statements meets expectations, thereby avoiding delays caused due to the submission of inadequate statements.
