Do I need planning permission?

The following pages contain links to the Planning Portal's web site and the Council's house extension enquiry form, to enable you to find out whether or not you will need to apply for planning permission to extend or alter your house, or build something in your garden.  It has advice about the need for planning permission for proposals related to businesses and a fee calculator to help you work out the cost of the planning application.

 

Not all work requires permission. Some minor works are classed as permitted development but you should always check with your local authority before carrying out any development work to a property.

 

In some areas of the country permitted development rights are more restricted, if you live in a conservation area for example you will need to apply for planning permission for work that would not normally require it.
