Dangerous Structures and Public Safety Services
Structural & Public Safety in Building Standards provides multiple services in two teams to ensure that:
- building construction within the city meets statutory building standards
- a cleaner, greener, safer, and healthy built environment is maintained
- buildings are demolished safely
The Structures & Demolitions Team
- provides a structural checking support service to Building Regulations, and to the Licensing team
- provides a service dealing with the control of all demolitions across the City
- administers demolition contracts for Council Client Departments, including tender preparations, design & site supervision. This service is available to external clients
- provides a Planning Supervisor service to Council Client Departments. This service is available to external clients
The Safety and Surveys Team
- deals with dangerous structures, trees, and environments across the City
- is taking a pro-active approach to the reduction of dereliction across all Areas of the City
- is responsible for appropriate representations about buildings or events requiring licensing by the Council
- is part of the Council’s certification function dealing with safety at sports grounds
- provides a geotechnical support service to Building Regulations and to private clients, please see attached SPS - Advice Note 1
- provides a building survey service, available to all Council Client Departments and to external clients
