Clinton Woods
Clinton Woods was born in Sheffield in May 1972 and had a successful career in the ring and won the British, Commonwealth, European and the IBF light-heavyweight titles.
Looking back on his career, he said:
"There have been more ups than downs over 15 years."Beating Crawford Ashley for the European light-heavyweight title and winning the world title against Rico Hoye were the biggest highlights, along with beating Glen Johnson."
He retired with a record of 42 wins, including 24 knockouts, and had just five losses.
Clinton announced his retirement from boxing on 8th September 2009 following defeat to Tavoris Cloud in Florida, USA. When asked about retirement after the defeat, he said:
"To be honest, the thought of that upsets me more than losing the world title, retiring from the sport I love".
Sheffield’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Graham Oxley commented:
"Clinton has been a great ambassador for the city and I am sure will continue to do so. I am very proud to welcome Clinton into the city’s walk of fame as a Sheffield Legend."
