A Magnificent Seven-Piece Flower Set
The centre bowl with cast foliate mounts, and the boat-shaped body embellished with repousse fluting and palmette leaf decoration on a matt ground and reversed panels of chased foliate cartouches pendant with flowers. Cast and finely chased "C" scroll handles capped with leaf decoration and raised on four scrolled foliate feet. Richly gilt interior. Six side pieces with similar decoration.
Inscription:
"This centre piece, together with 6 smaller side pieces were presented to the City by Miss Franklin, daughter of the late Alderman Sir George Franklin, Litt.D./ JP, 1942. Presented to Alderman George Franklin, JP, Honorary Secretary of the Royal Reception Committee, acknowledgement of gratuitous and very valuable services rendered by him." In a cartouche is engraved, "Visit of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, to Sheffield."
