Rock climbing in the nearby countryside
Sheffield Ski Village is Europe’s largest all-season ski resort catering for skiers and snowboarders alike. With slopes for all abilities, including an expert black run, 2 challenging reds and a snowflex stunt slope, the Ski village occupies an idyllic setting with stunning views across the city and the nearby Peak District. For those not intending to take to the slopes there are children’s play areas, including the latest addition Adventure Mountain, and a toboggan run. The bar and restaurant has a balcony overlooking the slopes to soak up the atmosphere. Packages are on offer for families and all visitors to the website can obtain special web offers.

Many of the UK’s top climbers live in and around Sheffield, including Joe Simpson who recently won a BAFTA award for his docu-drama ‘Touching the Void’. So it’s not surprising that Sheffield has some of the UK’s top indoor climbing facilities. Get your climbing shoes on and head to The Edge Climbing Centre or The Foundry Climbing Centre whatever your ability.

For those who prefer the outdoors, Sheffield is perfectly placed with some of the best sites on our doorstep. Due to Sheffield’s close proximity to the Peak District National Park (less than 5 miles from the city centre!) rock-climbing has become so popular that each weekend there are thousand of climbers on the crags. Far from being overcrowded, the Peak has well over 10000 recorded climbs. Popular sites include Stanage Edge, Higgar Torr or Froggatt Edge.

Why not make Sheffield your base and combine city and countryside for the weekend?
