Q ) Who are the North Area Rangers ?
 
A) The North Area Ranger team is part of the Parks and Countryside Service.The team consists of a full time Ranger Team Leader, a full time Ranger, and a number of temporary Trainee Assistant Rangers, funded in partnership with Sheffield Wildlife Trust.
 
Q) Where are the North Area Rangers based?
 
A) At Oaks Fold ‘Cruck’ Barn, Oaks Lane, Concord Park in the Shiregreen area of the city. The barn and adjoining cottage provides office and meeting space together with both indoor and outdoor education facilities for small groups.
 
The grounds feature a specially constructed pond area and adjacent is a wild flower meadow, ideal for work with local schools and community members.
 
Situated on the Trans Pennine Trail the base also provides a visitor information service (please telephone prior to visit) where staff can provide leaflets and information on a range of related subjects.                                                                                    
 
Q) Which geographic area do the North Area Rangers cover ?
 
A) The team are responsible for activities in over 200 greenspaces in the North of the City.
They cover an area running from the City Centre in the south to High Green and Stocksbridge in the north with Penistone Road – Halifax Road being the ‘border’ on the west and Attercliffe common being the ‘border’ on the east.
 
Q) What do North Area Rangers do ?
 
A) The rangers support communities through the provision of information and advice on a range of practical environmental issues, volunteer opportunities and basic practical skills training.
They work in partnership with community groups to support environmentally focused fundraising and work with a wide range of local ‘friends’ groups, supporting activities as diverse as litter picking, grass sledging, guided walks and small scale construction work.
 
The ‘City parks’ of Concord Park and Firth Park receive targeted support from the North Ranger team and a visible, uniformed presence is provided, together with a first point of contact for visitors.
 
Education events are organised on a regular basis, with people of all ages, and include activities such as pond dipping, bird and bat box building and environmental games.
