East Area Ranger Team

 

 

A wide variety of green spaces are found in the area covered by the East Ranger Team. These include ancient woodlands at Bowden Housteads Wood, a wetland nature reserve at Blackburn Meadows and more formal parks like Norfolk Heritage Park and Richmond Park.

 

Across all the green spaces in the East Area, the Ranger service undertakes practical site works such as access controls, and management of habitats for wildlife. All onsite works are conducted in accordance with Sheffield Local Biodiversity Action Plan. Where sites are regarded as locally important for Sheffield’s more rare species and habitats, the Rangers ensure that any management plans and/or Countryside Stewardship Agreements are developed and implemented effectively.

 

This variety of green spaces allows the East Team to provide a varied programme of events and environmental education. Fun activities such as grass sledging and other sports are very popular. Other more environmentally based activities include pond dipping, minibeasting and guided walks to look at wildflowers, trees and fungi.

The East Team Rangers also provide support to project based Rangers. These include projects for Shire Brook Valley, Norfolk Heritage Park, High Hazel’s Park and Greenwatch. More information about these projects can be found on this Web site.

 

Based at Norfolk Heritage Park, the East Area Ranger Team works in the areas covered by ‘Manor, Castle and Woodthorpe’, ‘South East’ and ‘Darnall’ area panels.
