The Community Partnerships Team is part of Sheffield City Council Parks and Countryside Service. We currently support a large number of 'Friends of' groups who are actively involved in improving their local green space through fund raising, practical work and events. 

 

The Community Partnerships Team are always interested to hear from individuals or from local businesses who are interested in volunteering or just in finding out more about our parks and green spaces.  We also offer a booking service to community groups and businesses that wish to make use of our park facilities and sports pitches.

 

We aim to help you make full use of Sheffield's green spaces.

 

We can offer advice and information to community groups who wish to improve our parks and green spaces.  We can help you to organise activities and events to make your park a more fun place to be.  Community groups can often access funding not available to Local Authorities, and by working together we can bring about real changes that benefit the whole community.  So, if you want to get involved, whether you are just passionate about your local green space or if you would like to become part of a "Friends" group please contact us.

 

The Parks and Countryside Service recognises the importance of partnership working and community participation in making sustainable improvements to local environments.  Community involvement in the regeneration of green spaces has been shown to be important in tackling issues such as vandalism, dereliction of land and wasted space, under-use of community spaces, fear of crime, and in developing a sense of community ownership.  Additional benefits to the community include training, employment and improvements to health.

 

Partnership working is where communities take a lead role, along with the Parks and Countryside Service and other regional agencies, in decisions affecting your local environment and it is a Government supported initiative.  Many national sources of regeneration funding for green spaces are now being directed towards community groups rather than local authorities or other statutory agencies, to try to encourage genuine partnership working and a sense of ownership by the local community.

 

We are committed to partnership working with the local community and we encourage the development of community and voluntary groups through both practical and financial support.  The Community Partnerships Team working within the Parks and Countryside Service is committed to encouraging community participation at all levels in the management, maintenance and regeneration of Sheffield’s green spaces.  This includes providing communities with information, encouraging community consultation, supporting communities to decide together with the service on the future for green spaces and to act together to improve such spaces.
