Three Parks Group
The Three Parks Group works in partnership with the Three Parks Programme from Sheffield City Council to make improvements to Colley, Longley and Parson Cross parks. Since we were established in 2003 we have achieved a lot:
- We fundraised to carry out consultation with young people on Longley park
- We’ve planted thousands of bulbs in Parson Cross park
- Commissioned a report on the heritage of Longley park
- Represented the views of the community about plans for developments on all three parks
- We raised £183,000 for the works on Longley Park
The work doesn’t stop! The majority of the works on Longley park were completed in spring 2006. Work on Colley Park was finished in autumn 2006. But, there is still a lot to do. The cost of the plans for both parks were more than we had funding for. We would love to be able to put the rest of the schemes into the parks – we just need to raise some more money!
The masterplan for Parson Cross Park is being for reviewed and we will be involved in the consultation which is taking place over summer 2007.
What can you do to help?
If you would like to get involved there are plenty of things you can do:
- Fundraising: We are always looking for ways of raising money to improve the parks, if you have any good ideas we’d like to hear from you.
- Practical work: Fancy getting your hands dirty? There are plenty of opportunities for gardening, scrub bashing, tree planting etc
- Events: Come and help out at one of our events. Have you got an idea for an event we don’t currently run? We would love to work with you to organise it.
- Reporting issues: We need you to tell us if something needs fixing on the parks. Maybe the litter bins need emptying more often, or some graffiti needs cleaning up, let us know and we’ll get it sorted!
We meet four times a year to talk about the developments on the parks, and raise any matters of concern.
The meetings are quarterly and are usually on a Friday at 1.30 pm. They are usually in Parson Cross park pavilion. Anyone is welcome to come to a meeting and there is no obligation to attend every month. We can provide a crèche if given notice.
