New Family Centre and Regenerated Park - Tinsley Recreation Ground
The new Family Centre in Tinsley and the regeneration of Tinsley Recreation Ground are two linked projects that were completed in 2006 through the combined efforts of the following key partners: Tinsley Sure Start, Sheffield City Council, Tinsley Parents and Children’s Consortium (TPCC) as lead partners for Sure Start, South East PCT as the Sure Start accountable body, Darnall Area Panel and Tinsley Forum as well as a number of volunteers from the community.
The Family Centre located in Tinsley Recreation Ground, with a total floor area of approximately 1100m2, has Sure Start childcare provision, a Healthy Eating Community kitchen/café, meeting/activity rooms/changing rooms and interview rooms for occupiers and public use, public toilets for Centre and Park users, extensive environmental/sustainable features and accommodation for Park staff and Community Police.
In order to improve Tinsley Recreation Ground extensive community consultation was carried out to gather views on the potential regeneration of the Recreation Ground. This resulted in the final designs reflecting the need for a recreation ground catering for the whole family. The improved area now includes the following features:
- New and improved entrances to make the recreation ground more attractive and inviting,
- Improved boundary treatments, particularly along Bawtry Road,
- The creation of a quiet area
- Extensive tree and shrub planting throughout the park,
- A new toddler and children’s play area,
- Improved sports facilities and new Multi Use Games Area,
- New pathways, seating, picnic areas and lighting throughout the park.
