Hillsborough Park Regeneration Project

Bowling outside the new sports pavilion

The first stage of the development of Hillsborough Park, funded by Active England, has now been completed. Improvement works have totalled £890,000 and have included:

  • Extending and rebuilding the old bowling pavilion to provide a contemporary multi-use building.  The new sports pavilion includes public toilets, improved facilities for the bowlers, a community room available to hire, new changing facilities for park users and a new ranger base and education room.
  • Extending the playground to create a fun area that encourages active play.  The new area uses landforms and art features to inspire exploration, alongside the existing traditional play equipment.
  • Creating a 1,500m 'figure of eight' running track through the park.  This included new surfacing, lighting and a new link parallel to Parkside Road.

During 2007 the project team will be working on the plans for the second phase of the park development, which will hopefully result in funding for improvements to the coach house, which is currently derelict, and the surrounding area of the park.
