Kettlebridge (Myton Road) Doorstep Green

One of two welcome entrances to Kettlebridge Doorstep GreenInformal play area and ball games walls at Kettlebridge Doorstep Green

Congratulations to Kettlebridge Action Group who have for the second year running been given a Green Pennant Award for Kettlebridge Doorstep Green.

Kettlebridge Action Group have been the driving force behind the transformation of this run down bland strip of grass, which suffered from fly tipping and lack of maintenance. The site is now a colourful inviting community space with seating, ball games walls, an informal play area, events space and footpaths. The group carried out extensive consultation to find out what local people wanted to see in the area and they were successful in securing funding from Countryside Agency’s Doorstep Green Scheme and Living Spaces.

Local residents got involved on site and helped to design and paint murals on the ball games walls, plant bulbs on the site, design the multi cultural entrance gateways and lay a pebble mosaic. The Darnall Green Spaces Regeneration Project supported the delivery of the project and the group now help and manage the site in partnership with Sheffield City Council’s Parks and Countryside Service.

Mushrat Javaid, Chair of Kettlebridge Action Group stated ‘ we are all really pleased that Kettlebridge Doorstep Green have been awarded a second Green Pennant Award. It has been excellent watching the transformation of this small green space and since it was completed last summer more people have been using the site and commenting on how nice it looks. Our group is made up of volunteers and was set up to try and improve our local green space, and we all feel that this award demonstrates how successful we have been'.

Completed in July 2005, The Kettlebridge Doorstep Green Project Official Opening was held on Saturday 19th November 2005.
