Darnall Community Park (Kashmir Gardens)
ECUS (Environmental Consultancy University of Sheffield) have been working on a Masterplan for Darnall Community Park after consultation with people in Darnall through events, school visits, youth club workshops, and the circulation of questionnaires. The masterplan and masterplan drawing is available to download at the bottom of the page. We are currently seeking funding to implement the plan and improve the park.
As with all the sites that we work on we regularly hold events for families and young children during school holidays, which prove to be very popular.
Youth Shelter
A unique bright orange youth shelter with black stripes and a tiger’s head on one side has been installed in Darnall Community Park. The youth shelter designed by Campbell Design Ltd, Young Friends of Darnall Community Park and young people from the Starworks Youth Group was created in response to consultation with youths and is on the masterplan for Darnall Community Park.
The money for the project was raised by the Young Friends of Darnall Community Park who were successful in getting funding from the Youth Capital Fund supported by "Money Talks" and Sheffield City Council.
Nature Area
The nature area in Darnall Community Park will be getting £10,000 thanks to the Darnall Forum for securing the funds from the Big Lottery Breathing Spaces campaign. The money will be spent on interpretation, art features, seating and boundary improvements, which will complement the pathway around the area that was created in January this year. We hope that as the nature area becomes more established and well used, park users will find it a nice place to have a picnic and local schools will be able to run environmental sessions as it is already an area thriving with plant life and wildlife.
Mosaic Feature (Wilfrid Road entrance)
Pupils Y5 and Y6 from Greenlands Junior School have created a fantastic new mosaic entrance feature for Darnall Community Park. The finished mosaic was unveiled on Thursday 13th July 2006 and is the result of a project funded by Awards for All.
The mosaic is part of the regeneration plans for Darnall Community Park and is a new feature at the Wilfrid Road entrance to the park. Thank you to the children from Greenlands Junior School who took part in after school workshops with artist Amanda Wray and the Darnall Green Spaces Regeneration Project. The children were involved in both designing and making parts of the mosaic.
