Other Types of Ceremonies
Wedding Blessings
A Wedding Blessing is a ceremony that is very similar to a civil marriage ceremony, however, it does not form a marriage contract in the legal sense. Couples must attend a Register Office before the blessing to deal with the legalities and obtain a Civil Marriage Certificate.
Couples choosing to have a blessing, do so because they are not restricted to set venues. A Wedding Blessing can be held indoors or outdoors, and can be at a special place that is significant to both of them.
Non - Civil Naming Ceremonies
Non-Civil Naming Ceremonies provide an alternative to a traditional Christening Ceremony. They can be held indoors or outdoors with a parent, relative or celebrant performing the ceremony.
Families are free to include whatever they deem to be appropriate, as there is no set script to follow. The ceremony has no legal standing, however, as with a traditional christenening, parents are required to register a child's birth within 21 days in Scotland and 42 days in England and Wales.
Renewal of Vows
A Renewal of Vows Ceremony is similar to a Wedding Blessing, offering couples the opportunity to celebrate their marriage in a unique and personal way, whilst re-affirming their marriage vows.
Often a Renewal of Vows is associated with a special wedding anniversary. Occasionally, if a couple have married abroad, a Renewal of Vows gives family and friends the opportunity to enjoy a special day nearer to home.
There are many reasons for couples to decide to renew their vows, and the ceremony is appropriate for couples at any stage of their marriage. As with a Wedding Blessing a Vow Renewal has no legal status.
