Children's Play in Sheffield

In Sheffield we have recognised that Play is central to children and young people’s lives and essential for a child’s growth and development physically, mentally and socially.  The Sheffield Play Strategy aims to change people’s attitudes about play and to raise awareness about the importance of play for all children and young people across the city.

Its goal is for the city to be described as ‘Playful Sheffield’, a ‘child-friendly city’, where every child’s right to play is seen as necessary and valuable by both parents and service providers.  To view the Play Strategy in more detail why not download the full document below.

There are many different contributors to play across the city, here are just a few.

Children’s Voices - want to know what children and young people think about play? Do you want to know the views of young people about your project? Ask the experts at Children’ Voices.

Highfields Adventure Playground & Pitsmoor Adventure Playground - Children play at these purpose built and well-maintained adventure playgrounds.  The playgrounds are even open access.

Parks and Open Spaces - There are over 130 children’s playgrounds in Sheffield’s parks and open spaces.

Play Casual Workers – Gain additional support for your group/club through our team of casual workers.

The Sheffield Children's Scrapstore sells arts, craft and scrap materials. They also offer art workshops for children and training for adults. The Scrapstore is open to parents and anyone who works or volunteers with children.
