Meetings
Future meetings will be as follows:
- January 21st 2009, 10:00am, Executive
- February 18th 2009, 6:30pm, Open meeting “Languages in Sheffield”
- March 18th 2009, 10:00am, Executive
- April 15th, 10:00am, Executive
- May 13th, 10:00am, Executive
- June 17th, 6:30pm, Open meeting and Final A.G.M.
All meetings will be held in the Town Hall.

Future of SILC
The Executive will be discussing arrangements for winding up SILC in its present form at their meeting in January. If readers have any comments on this process please contact the Secretary.
N.B. By resolution SILC will cease to exist following the AGM.
Events
The Lord Mayor’s Reception for Overseas Students at Sheffield College, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield University will be held on Wednesday 15th February at 6.30 pm. This is by invitation only.
Annual Schools’ Day will be held in 2009 on March 20th in the Town Hall. Invitations to participate will be sent to schools in January.
Latin America Seminar
A successful event, attended by about 40 people took place at the Development Education Centre, South Yorkshire on October 11th 2008. Presentations were in considerable variety from a varied group of organisations including CAFOD, Cuba Solidarity Campaign, King Edward VII School and Language College, Languages Sheffield, Sheffield Esteli Society, Sheffield University Education Dept, Sheffield University students, Sheffield-Venezuela Information Centre and Wales High School.
Countries where projects are taking place and featured in the Seminar included Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Venezuela

International Sheffield
The Secretary spoke to a Council Committee on November 10th about the need for Sheffield to have an international strategy. Other presentations on a similar theme were given by people from Creative Sheffield where a post of International Officer (Daniel Klemm) has been established. SILC was one of the organisations contributing during a recent review of Sheffield’s International needs led by Creative Sheffield.
