Sheffield International Linking Committee (SILC) will be wound up at the end of August 2009. Not all contacts will be available as listed after that date and this section will be amended or removed.

About SILC
SILC was formed in 2001 by the amalgamation of Sheffield International Affairs Association and the former Sheffield International Linking Committee to become the single umbrella organisation for linking abroad in Sheffield. It is not the only Sheffield organisation involved in international affairs, but does include or have contacts with a wide range of active local groups and has strong links with Sheffield City Council.
The aims of SILC are:
- To promote Sheffield's international links through friendship, cultural and educational contacts and exchanges.
- To increase cultural and racial harmony and understanding.
- To help those with existing contacts to strengthen and develop their relationships.
- To encourage and support the development of new links abroad and at home.
- Help to raise the profile of the City of Sheffield overseas.
- To publicise the international involvement of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
To help achieve these aims, SILC:
- Aims to keep people informed of current activities and encourages sharing of information.
- Encourages groups and individuals to take part in international issues.
- Puts on events to inform and support people working internationally.
- Responds to external and other enquiries on linking abroad.

Sheffield's International Links
Longstanding formal links exist with China (Anshan), Germany (Bochum), Nicaragua (Esteli), Ukraine (Donetsk) and Zambia (Kitwe). There are friendship links with Japan (Kawasaki) and the USA (Pittsburgh).
