Sheaf Square

Sheaf Square is a new public space situated outside Sheffield Station. The area was previously used as a car park, and was surrounded by a major road network. The square now provides a stunning enterance to the city centre.
 
Sheaf Sqaure:
 
  • Is part of Sheffield’s Masterplan for the city centre, launched in 2001 the plan guides the regeneration of the city centre over the next 10 – 15 years. For more information on the project visit the Creative Sheffield web site.
 
  • Won the coveted Project of the Year Award in the 2006 National Rail Awards.
 
  • Contains the spectacular Cutting Edge Sculpture, which combines the city’s famous resource – steel - with water and light to create a spectacular first impression. For more facts about the sculpture see the Cutting Edge Sculpture More Information page.
 
  • Features a dramatic cascade of water, which uses noise and light to give the plaza an exciting atmosphere.
 
  • Feels completely different at night due to the use of different coloured lighting around the paving, sculpture and water feature.
 
  • The sides of the square are lined with major buildings including Sheffield Midland Station, Showroom Cinema, plans for development in the area include a new hotel and office space.
 
  • Forms the start of a spectacular walk, the emerging ‘Gold Route’, taking visitors from the Station through a series of exciting new developments each with their own distinctive lighting, public art and water features, to the city centre.
