Smoking Related Litter
We are commited to help reduce smoking related litter in the city centre; to achieve this we have installed 33 Kwik Stubb ashtrays to the top of litter bins.
By providing the Kwik Stubbs facilities which give smokers somewhere easy and safe to stub out and dispose of their cigarettes, we are hoping to encourage people to not stub out or drop their cigarettes in the street which creates unsightly litter.
Kwik Stubbs are safe and easy to use, it is simple a sperate compartment which keeps the cigarette from falling into the bin, giving them time to extinguish and making sure the bin is not set on fire. Emptying is also simple; just lift and twist the circular top part, let the cigarettes fall into the bin, then drop it back into place. Not only do they provide somewhere for smokers to dispose of cigarettes safely and easily, they should significantly help reduce smoking related litter.
If you have any questions regarding the Kwik Stubb please email citycentre.management@sheffield.gov.uk or call the City Centre Management helpdesk on 0114 2736895.
Smoke Free Legislation
It is now illegal to smoke inside enclosed public places and workplace. This applies to all businesses such as pubs, clubs, membership clubs, cafes, restaurants, shopping centres, offices, public and work transport.
The new law has been introduced to protect employees and the public from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.
Key points are:
- It is against the law to smoke in virtually all enclosed and substantially enclosed public places and workplaces.
- Public transport and work vehicles used by more than one person should also be smokefree.
- No-smoking signs should be displayed in all smokefree premises and vehicles.
- Staff smoking rooms and indoor smoking areas will no longer be allowed, so anyone who wants to smoke will have to go outside.
- Managers of smokefree premises and vehicles have legal responsibilities to prevent people from smoking.
- If you are uncertain where you can or can't smoke, just look for the no-smoking signs or ask someone in charge.
