Role of the City Centre Ambassadors
Welcoming
- Welcome and give information to visitors.
- Ambassadors are first aid trained for a quick response to incidents and have recently completed a course for the Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
- Work with young people through the junior Ambassadors scheme.
- Build Community spirit through social events.
- Keep a watchful eye over the public realm areas including, Peace Gardens, Barkers Pool, St Paul’s Square, Howard Street and the newly opened Sheaf Square at Sheffield Train Station.
Safer
- Assist in preventing street and car crime by offering high visibility patrols, advice and issuing vulnerable vehicle notices.
- Reunite lost children with their parents/guardians.
- Work in partnership with South Yorkshire Police to uphold the Alcohol restriction zone.
- Assist in enforcement initiatives; help reduce anti social behaviour including begging.
- Confiscate alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco from young persons.
- Issue fixed penalty notices (FPN) for a range of antisocial behaviour.
- Assist with the stewardship of major City Centre events such as Fright Night, City Lights and the World Snooker Championships.
- Other duties include crowd control and dealing with licensing issues.
Cleaner
- Arrange and monitor the removal of waste and litter.
- Remove Fly-posters from around the City Centre.
- Remove discarded needles.
- Arrange the removal of Graffiti..
- Report highway defects, broken street furniture and street lighting for a quicker response.
- Issues fixed penalty notices for litter, fly posting and graffiti.
