Sheffield City Council Press Release
24 September 2007
Sheffield City Centre Ambassadors Mary Lukins and Kay Stocks, and Police Community Support Officer Kayleigh Hickman have received District Commander’s Commendations from the South Yorkshire Police. The Commendations acknowledge their dedication, as part of the Safer City Centre Partnership, to keeping the streets of Sheffield safe.
Ambassador Mary Lukins and Police Community Support Officer Kayleigh Hickman received their Commendation for quick thinking and teamwork. Following a report of an assault upon a Sheffield Star seller in July 2007, Mary Lukins was first at the scene and had the presence of mind to speak with witnesses who gave vital information regarding the description of the offender. Mary then passed this information on to attending police officers. A short time later Mary Lukins and Police Community Support Officer Kay Hickman located the offender while on patrol. They immediately called police officers to the scene who successfully arrested the individual.
Ambassador Kay Stocks received her Commendation for her exceptional commitment and professionalism during the Sheffield floods in June 2007. Despite the obvious risk to her personal safety, Kay’s thoughts were to assist stranded and vulnerable members of the public to safety.
Deputy Leader Sheffield City Council, Councillor Steve Jones, said: " It is brilliant that the dedication and team work shown by the City Centre Ambassadors Mary and Kay, and Kayleigh the Police Community Support Officers has be acknowledged. The City Centre Ambassadors and the Police work as part of the Safer City Centre Partnership, and this is just one example of the results achieved by working together."
