Junior Ambassadors Spring into Summer
Sheffied City Council Press Release
8 August 2007
Throughout August the Sheffield Council's Junior Ambassadors will be busy working on projects, which will help make the city centre cleaner and greener, while at the same time having fun! The team of up to 20 young people aged between 8 and 14 years have volunteered from areas across the whole city including Parson Cross, Hackenthorpe, Wybourn, Springfield Estate and Broomhall.
With the support and leadership of the City Centre Ambassadors the team will be working on a range of projects such as cleaning up graffiti and litter, planting flowerbeds, and learning how the city centre is managed and patrolled. As a reward for their hard work the Junior Ambassadors will be having a behind the scenes look at West Bar Police Station, the Police Helicopter base and the Sheffield General Cemetery. They will also be visiting some of Sheffield's visitor attractions including the Fire Station Museum, Weston Park Museum and Whirlow Hall Farm.
In 2004 the Council's City Centre Management Team applied for a grant to set up the Junior Ambassadors, and the scheme has increased in popularity every year since then.
Jan Wilson, Leader Sheffield City Council said, "The Junior Ambassadors Scheme is a great way to get young people more involved with their environment. Through a range of fun events and different activities they will hopefully learn to care about and care for the city in which they live."
