City Centre Ambassadors Complete Marathon Challenge

Leader of the Council Jan Wilson presents the Sheffield Deaf Club President with a cheque for £400.

Sheffield City Council Press Release

7 August 2007

City Centre Ambassadors Chris Baxter and Mary Craig both raised £400 for the Sheffield Deaf Club by taking part in the Sheffield Half Marathon held in May this year.

The City Centre Ambassadors chose to raise money for the Sheffield Deaf Club, after visiting the club as part of their patrol.  The Ambassadors raised an impressive £400 by asking friends, family and work colleagues to sponsor them.  Members of the Sheffield Deaf Club also raised money. The money will pay for a ramp to make the centre where the Deaf Club meets more accessible to everyone.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Jan Wilson will join Chris and Mary to present the Deaf Club with the money at a celebration event on Friday 10 August at 1:30pm at the Sheffield Deaf Club Centre.

The Sheffield Deaf Club is a charitable organisation which provides a meeting place for hearing impaired people, and access to support activities such as sign language classes and welfare services.

Chris Baxter completed the run in 1hour and 41mins and Mary Craig completed it in 2 hours and 2mins.  Both Chris and Mary keep fit regularly but increased their training in the weeks building up to the race, to three or four 40mins runs per week.
