How to join the Library
General
You can become a member by going to any local library, the Central Library or Mobile Library.
Adults
You will be asked to complete the application form (which you can download from below), show one form of identification and can start borrowing straight away. View our list of Acceptable Identification.
You will need to register separately to use the People's Network and Sheffield Archives and the Sports Library.
If you genuinely cannot show proof of address, you can still join but with limited borrowing rights - see our Adults without Identification section.
What you can borrow:
- Up to fifteen books including books on tape
- Up to five items of recorded music
- Up to five DVDs or videos
- Up to 2 Learning Centre books
- Use of the People's Network computers at any library
Children under 18 years of age
You will be asked to complete the application form (which can be downloaded from below). If your parent/carer is present when you join, then they will be asked to sign the application form. If your parent/carer is not present when you join then you will be able to take out upto two items when you join, and your ticket and a letter will be posted out to your parent/carer. When you come next come to the library with the ticket you will have full borrowing rights.
What you can borrow:
- Up to 15 books free of charge, including books on tape
- Up to 5 music CD's. A charge is made for these
- Use of the People's Network computers in any library
Adults without Identification
You will be asked to complete the application form (which you can download from below). If you cannot show one form of identification you will be given limited borrowing rights.
What you can borrow:
- Up to two books including talking books
- One item of recorded music
- One DVD or video
- Use of the People's Network computers at any library
