Useful websites for job hunting and recruitment
Advice Resource - website offering careers advice. Includes a Careers Value Tool to help make decisions about careers. Also a directory of job profiles and CV builder.
My Sheffield Jobs - covers Sheffield and the surrounding area. If you register with the site you can upload your CV and have it evaluated.
Direct Gov Jobs - official Government site that allows you to search for jobs by area or postcode. Also allows you to search for training and voluntary work. You can also find childcare and careers information. The site also lists public appointments such as seats on public committees or boards for Quangos. These will often pay a nominal salary for a set number of hours per year.
Careers Advice - part of the Learndirect organisation that provides information on jobs and careers. You can search for information on careers in particular areas and also find job profiles with information on training, salary, entrance requirements etc. You can also search for courses or contact a Learndirect Advisor for more personalised help. The site includes a CV builder and a Skills and Assessment Programme to help you find which jobs/careers you may be suited for.
Jobcentreplus - part of the Department of Work and Pensions. On this site you can search for jobs and find out information about New Deal and various employment programmes. Can also get help with making benefit claims. Usually the first stop for people looking for work.
Local Help
Sheffield Centre for Full Employment - operates Jobnet centres around the city which give help with information on job search, training and help with CVs. Based at 73 West Street, Sheffield 1 and centres around the city. Please use the website for local area jobnet offices.
Sheffield Futures and Connexions Centre - this covers Careers Advice and Guidance for young people via the Connexions Service and for Adults via Sheffield Futures. It has a Careers Library open to the public and includes a drop in information service for adults as well as appointment advice sessions. Based at Star House on Division Street, Sheffield 1.
Sheffield Job Centre Plus - There are various offices around the city. The City Centre office is at 112 West Street, Sheffield 3. Please use the Sheffield Telephone Directory for a full list under the heading "JOB".
Sheffield Prospects - gives information and guidance for job seekers, adults facing redundancy or needing advice on careers and work. They also offer help with CVs. Based at Belgrave House, 47 Bank Street, Sheffield1, Tel 0114 279 9760.

Help with CV's
Local Libraries offer word processing on Peoples Network to create a CV. Some local libraries offer CV help if they have links with a local Jobnet/development trusts. Firth Park Library has a service on Monday afternoons starting at 1.30pm where you can get help with creating your CV. You can book an appointment through the library, tel 0114 203 7433.
The Careers Advice website has a CV Builder which will allow you to create a basic CV on the website, save and print it out. This should be available on the People's Network in all libraries.
Jobnet - some of the Jobnets or local development trusts or other organisations will give CV help for people registered with them as jobseekers or if you have been referred on specific programmes such as New Deal. For local area organisations you have to be living in that area.
Sheffield Prospects gives CV help to the public. You will need to telephone for an appointment and have a guidance interview to decide what to put in the CV. They can help you do it or create it for you. For more information tel 0114 279 9760.

Employment Agencies
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is the trade body that supports and represents the recruitment industry. Use the online consultancy finder to find an agency by name, location or work sector.
Executive Grapevine - the UK directory of talent management is available for reference in the Business, Science & Technology Library. It includes executive recruitment, interim management and talent management firms and can be searched by name, salary range, function & industry.
