Venus fly trap plant

‘Venus Fly Trap Plant’ the label read,
‘Insectivorous meat-eating plant,
Watch it’s jaw-like leaves snap shut on insects,
Maximum height 18 inches’.
The first week it trapped the insects,
The second week it trapped the bees,
Until it filled the kitchen window,
This insectivorous meat-eating plant with jaw-like leaves,
Maximum height 18 inches.
We fed it with strips of bacon,
We gave it a chip, a rabbit,
We lost the budgie,
We couldn’t find the cat.
Last week we disposed of
This insectivorous meat-eating plant with jaw-like leaves,
Maximum height 18 inches.
We were worried about the dog.

The fly

Consider, if you will, the plight of the fly,
And the many ways in which he can die,
Some folks flatten him with a swat,
He isn’t very happy about that.
Well, I think nobody would
Like to be oozing guts and blood.
But another way
Is to zap him with a spray.
Frantically he buzzes around,
Then swiftly drops dead, to the ground.
Or he could fall into a glass of Guinness
And come to a very sticky finish.
I’m sure you will understand why
I pray to God not to reincarnate me as a fly.
