Looking back

When I was eighteen dear John
And you were twenty-one,
There was much we had not seen
And much we had not done.
We set out to explore the world
And in those eager days
Lead by our aspirations
We planned our separate ways.

We gazed upon the road ahead
With over zealous eyes,
Thus embraced each other
Then bid our fond goodbyes,
The urge for independence
And the lure of pastures new
Prompted the ambitions
We sought to pursue.

Has it all been worth it John
Would we still choose to part
Or would we take another route
closest to the heart?
