Visitors with Special Needs

We aim to make our facilities and the collections as fully accessible as possible.  If you have any special needs we strongly advise that you contact us in advance so that we can accommodate your requirements.

Note: Sheffield Local Studies Library and Sheffield Archives are located in separate buildings approximately 10 minutes walk apart.
 

Local Studies

 
  • Designated on street parking bays for blue badge holders are available on Surrey Street. Disabled parking is also available in the Central Library’s loading bay, off Arundel Gate, which gives level access to the back door and lift.
  • Wheelchair access via side entrance on Arundel Gate.
  • Height adjustable table.
  • Adjustable seating.
  • Easy use computer mouse.
  • Induction loop.
  • Access to a live telephone translation service.
  • A mix of microform viewers are available. Some have electric winding mechanisms and others are operated by hand. There is a wide range of magnifications spread across the machines.
  • Magnifying glasses available to borrow.
  • Guide dogs and assistance dogs welcome.
  • Disabled toilet.
 

Archives

 
  • Full disabled access.
  • All services are on the ground floor - there are no steps or stairs.
  • Self opening entrance door.
  • Induction loop.
  • Access to a live telephone translation service.
