Norfolk Park
Dominated by Norfolk Heritage Park and the Black Bank open space, and occupying a prominent hillside position, Norfolk Park neighbourhood lies just outside the ring road, to the southeast of the city centre.
The area is undergoing major transition that has been funded from a number of regeneration programmes including the Single Regeneration Budget Round 2 and European Structural Funds. The vision is to create a new urban village of mixed tenure housing.
Since 1996 there has been a major clearance programme of the high-rise estate that was built in the sixties, particularly of the tower blocks for which the area was famous, to be replaced by affordable housing association and private sector housing.
Norfolk Park benefits from good access to public transport, particularly through the supertram route, which winds its way up through the neighbourhood along Park Grange Road. A new community primary school opened in February 2004.
The park itself has been the focus in recent years of substantial lottery-funded regeneration and restoration activity, which has seen the construction of a new park pavillion, as well as the upgrading of other park facilities.
